West Sussex County Council have given advanced notice of a planned road closure for the A29, at Church Hill on the 09/01/2024, between 9:30 and 15:30.
They have advised that following the recent geotechnical report, the health of the trees on both sides of the road has been brought into question. As a result of this, WSCC Tree Officers will be undertaking a detailed assessment of the trees, to establish what works are required in the short and medium term to keep this section of highway safe but also to ensure the structural integrity of the embankments are not worsened. These assessments will be undertaken with geotechnical support, with the stability of the embankments in mind.
As well as this tree assessment, WSCC also plan to utilise the road closure to undertake street lighting lamp upgrades, which avoids the need to close the road again.
Once the assessment is completed, WSCC will understand if additional works will be required. Any work required will be communicated via a future update.
If you have any specific questions, please can you direct these to WSCC via a29landslip@westsussex.gov.uk and WSCC will endeavour to respond as soon as they can.
