Village Help Scheme

What we do

The Coldwaltham village scheme – supporting the whole parish, provides (at very nominal charge) transport for medical appointments. We also have wheelchairs for loan (many thanks to Michael Ryan for the maintenance work) and various other aids. Speak with Pauline at the post office to confirm what we have.

We are in urgent need for volunteer drivers, so if you are able to help, or know someone who could, would you speak with a member of the committee so we can continue to support our community.

The NHS is moving to weekend appointments and ‘on the day’ appointments which is putting even more demands on the few drivers we have.

The committee

The committee is now and for many years has been:  Pauline Streeter (Chairman), John Connor (Treasurer), Sheila Hewer (Secretary), Michael Clenshaw, Ian Mouland, Pam Ruffle and Angela Scriven.

History

When the Wild Brooks Society was formed in the early 1970’s the Chairman, the late Mr John Boxford discussed with the committee the idea of forming an offshoot to provide ways to help our community.

Following a meeting with Social Services and under the leadership of Miss Edna Llewhellin the Village Help Scheme was born.  The Scheme covered Hardham, Coldwaltham and Watersfield.

At that time providing help with cooking meals, minor DIY, visiting the sick etc were offered but we are no longer able to provide that level of assistance.
