We have received the following note from West Sussex Highways, which is important to note – it will mean significant detours for many people between the A29 and Storrington. Please note the dates.
We wish to inform you of refurbishment works to Greatham Bridge in Brooks Lane, which are due to commence on 17 July 2017 and last for approximately 12 weeks.
Due to the narrowness of the road, the bridge will need to be closed to traffic for this period, with a signed local diversion route put in place via the A29 and A283. Access to private properties along the lane will be maintained at all times, albeit from the diversion route. Pedestrian access over the bridge will also remain available.
Routine inspections have identified significant erosion to the old stonework, particularly at a lower level where it has been affected by the action of the river. The refurbishment work is being carried out by specialist stone masons under the consent of Historic England.
